Coastal Middle SchoolCoastal TSA students win big in Athens By Savannah Morning News The theme for the 48th Georgia Technology Student Association State Conference was "TSA: Tomorrow's Leaders." The Coastal Middle School TSA chapter brought that future prediction a little bit closer to reality as they rallied against teams from across the state and won big in event after event. Coastal captured first place in Technology Bowl, Zap It! Electrical Applications; second place in Technology Bowl Written and Systems Control Technology; and third place in Chapter Team. The Coastal students included sixth-graders Courtney Walker, A.C. Williams, Michael Daly, Emily Willbanks and Nick Flint, and seventh-grader Logan Hindman. English teacher Elaine Clark Glenn and technology teacher Jim Glenn supervised the trip. The group as a whole won six awards, including third place in Chapter Team, which is a demonstration of parliamentary procedure, and ninth place in Outstanding Chapter. Individually, Flint won first place in Zap It! Electrical Application. Flint, Hindman and Walker won first place in Technology Bowl Oral. Flint and Daly won second place in Systems Control Technology. And Hindman won second place in Technology Bowl Written. All of the students now qualify to compete at the National Conference in Baltimore in June. For these students, winning at this level began with weeks of preparation. They attended the Fall Leadership Conference on St. Simons Island in November for the purpose of attending classes instructing them in competitive event opportunities, strategies, rules, regulations and professional business conduct. Students also attended leadership sessions, providing them an opportunity to use their knowledge and fields of expertise to teach and inspire others to learn and lead. These students excelled not only in the field of technology, but also in the areas of math and science. |
