Coastal Middle School Technology Student Association Attends
2008 Fall Leadership Conference

Seven students from Coastal Middle School recently attended the 47th annual Technology Student Association’s Fall Leadership Conference. Held on Jekyll Island, the conference is a precursor to the state conference held each spring. The students participated in technical sessions such as teambuilding, structural engineering, flight challenge, and video game design. These conference style classes enhance the students’ leadership and interpersonal skills as well as providing instruction for future competitive events. The students also participated in the Boat Armada on Saturday night. With the slogan “Build a boat and hope it floats,” this annual event requires a team of three students from each school to design and build a cardboard boat that will be paddled across a pool, hopefully without sinking. Each team is given a roll of duct tape and 30 minutes to build the boat. Representing Coastal in this event was Isabella Axelsson, Sarah Gattis, and Katie Lum. Coastal won second place in the event. Coastal Middle School continues to excel in Technology Student Association events. State Officer Patrick Glenn, who serves as the second vice president in Georgia T.S.A., also got the opportunity to utilize the public speaking skills that he has acquired at State Officer Training sessions throughout the year as he joined the other state officers in leading this annual event.
