Coastal Middle School Student Leaders Shine
On a rainy September afternoon, four Coastal Middle School students and their advisor arrived in Covington, Georgia with the goal of becoming better leaders and better team players. Representing Coastal Middle School's Technology Student Association, the chapter officers attended the Chapter Officers Retreat for Excellence (C.O.R.E.)

Sponsored by the Georgia Technology Student Association, C.O.R.E. is an intense weekend program designed to help students develop interpersonal and leadership skills and gain knowledge and abilities related to the duties of individual offices within the chapter. The weekend provided the officers with conference style classes related to officer training, team building classes, a leadership obstacle and ropes course, and a lot of entertainment.
Each chapter spent many hours working on a Plan Of Work for the upcoming year to aid the chapter in running effectively and efficiently. The final plans were submitted to state officers for judging. Students also had the opportunity to compete in a chapter logo contest and take the Stateman's Test.
As usual, Coastal's Technology Student Association brought home the prize. Coastal's Plan of Work was judged the best middle school plan at C.O.R.E. For their endeavors and perseverence, the students won a $25.00 Walmart Gift Card. Katie Lum and Jharrayne McKnight also passed their Stateman's Test and were awarded the coveted Stateman Pin. Patrick Glenn also received a Spirit Award pin for his willingness to volunteer in C.O.R.E. assemblies.
Coastal Middle School will continue to strive for excellence as our chapter officers build on the knowledge and skills learned at C.O.R.E. Congratulations to students Joseph Frankosky, Patrick Glenn, Katie Lum, and Jharrayne McKnight and advisor Jim Glenn.
